| Notes |
| |
The Norwegian Buhund is a
breed of
dog, specifically a
member of the spitz
family. The dog is the national dog breed of
Norway. It is
closely related to
Icelandic Sheepdog and
Jämthund.
In Norwegian, hund means dog and bu refers to both homestead and
livestock.
Appearance
The Buhund ranges in size from about 17 to 18 inches, and between 30 to 40
lbs. It comes in wheaten and black. The wheaten colour (colour of
wheat straw) has a variety of shades ranging from light to almost red and
with various degrees of shading from dark tipped hairs, including wolf sable,
which is recognised in the UK as a separate colour.
Two black Buhund Bitches.
Temperament
The Buhund is friendly and funloving and gets along with both people and
other animals. They are alert, agile, and quick learners. They possess a good
amount of energy, making them good for
dog sports and for just going for a good run, or ball play.
