Dogs
Pedigree
A pedigreed dog
is a dog that has its ancestry recorded and tracked by a major dog
registry. The number of generations required varies from breed to
breed, but all pedigreed dogs have papers from the registering body that
attest to its ancestry.
Sometimes purebred
is used to mean pedigreed, but as all breeds came from random bred dogs
originally, the term pedigreed is preferred.
