Aeration – essential factor to aquarium fish
As we all know rivers and lakes are the natural habitats for fish and other marine life. Rivers and lakes are a large volume of water which makes maximum oxygen for fish to survive in this natural environment. On the other hand, your home aquarium is much smaller and has less volume for oxygen and there is limited movement of the fish in the tank.
You will need to makes provisions to provide an alternative means of oxygen foryour fish to breathe in this environment. An aeration system can produce the added oxygen to sustain your marine life in your aquarium. It’s a simple process to re-oxygenate the water in aquarium tank.
The Aerating System:
To increase the oxygen concentration through aeration, you will need the following::
1. air pump
2. t-pieces
3. rubber tubing
4. clamp or regulator
5. diffusers or airstone
Air pumps do come in different shapes and sizes, and the most popular pumps are tecax air pumps from Taiwan. The other popular pump from Taiwan is ‘dyna free. In India, there are less expensive pumps such as the dragon’ and super 555, but are claimed to be less durable. In the UK, pumps are available such as the whisper, while France sells the rens air pump. Always place air pumps above the water level hooked to a non-vibrating material.
You can accomplish aeration in your aquarium tank by using the above listed aeration materials as these materials will form aeration system. For small tanks, all you need is do is to attach simple aquarium air pump to the airstone by means of rubber air tube. The system will blow air into the water which cause motion inyour aquarium tank and thus provide necessary oxygen your fish will need to sustain their oxygen needs in your aquarium.
